Junior skaters!

Had a great time today at Olympia stadion.
Great weather and finally learned to do some standup slides!

We also had our youngest members there(If we don't count Paulis daughter Maj who is a bit too young to come to skate with us).
Mini-Roosa, Kaisa and Isa

It's really annoying that little Roosa can probably skate mini better than me, I am really afraid that she will also kick my ass in longboarding some day.

Isa had her Penny board with her, all tough her dad Pasi was trying to convince us that they owned the board together.

Roosa, Mini-Roosa and Kaisa

It's sometimes crazy to skate with kids cause they learn everything so fast and make me just feel super old, even though I am only 21 years old!
In the future, I bet these girls will be ripping in europe and doing some of the craziest downhill ever.

Forever Brozoned?

What about when a girl longboarder becomes just "one of the guys"?

In longboarder groups a lots of times us girls; skate, drink beer, do silly and sometimes also dangerous stuff that is originally concidered to be "boys stuff".
Girls are treated the same way as guys which in my opinion is great, but soon the guys stop seeing us as girls and the we are stuck in the brozone.

"Sou you are going longboarding with a girl?"
-"Nope, it's just Roosa."

I have heard guys complain about girls friendzoning them. You hang out with an attractive girl, you are being polite, listen to her going on and on about her problems and alvays be there for her. After a while girl says :"Oh you are such a lovely guy, you listen to me and help me with all my stuff! I wish every guy would be like you! YOU ARE MY BEST FRIND"
*BOOM* Frindzoned!

You skate with attractive guy, you drink beer with them, ask for advices for example how to do this awesome but hard slides, you talk with them about longboarding for many hours without getting bored. After a while guy says: "Oh you are such a red skater, you like to party, go to travell all around europe with us. I hope every girl would be like you. YOU ARE SUCH A GOOD BRO"
*BOOM* Brozoned!

But is there any way of getting out of brozone?
Would wearing a mini skirt help?
Nope, I think once you have been brozoned, you are staying there for the rest of your life, The end!
Well, at least I enjoy being at the brozone, its very comfy here! :)

Day one

For me, today was the first real day of this year, me and Kaisa went longboarding.

Who is he?
When I waked up in the morning and looked out of the window I decided what I was going to do. I took my skateboard tool and putted my brand new complete together, called Kaisa and grabbed my camera. I was on my way to the hill at the stadium.
The guys had been there the last weekend and brushed all of the sand away from the little road going down from the swimming stadium. The place is often used for practising slides in summer but the good part is that the sun is shining directly on that spot most of the day so it's also one of the first snow free spots in the spring.

Before hitting the stadium we were cruising around the city center for a while, the main streets were dry and sand free so it was good just to cruise around for the first time this year.
"Is that the mini killswitch?" Shouted one guy when we were cruising by them, good guess but nope. Both of us were riding our Isis boards.
I was really nervous when we got to the stadium and it was time to do the first slides of the year. Whole new setup: brand new wheels and a board I have never slided with before.

But everything went better than expected: no falling down. They were maybe the best colemans I have ever done. Maybe it was the wheels, the board, Kaisa shouting "WHOO" on the top of the hill or maybe im just awesome.
I think it was all of that putted together and mixed with some killer weather.
Perfect way of starting the season!

Now im waiting to get to Madrid even more, really want to get some downhill done!

Skate and eat cake!

It was my birthday few weeks ago. It started out with sledding in Tähtitorninmäki. Snowy Finland.

Some of my longboarding friends just happened to feel like skateboarding like me. An one guy just happened to have a miniramp in his office, how cool is that!?  My friends surprised me with a card and a chocolate cake with candels. It was delicious. They sang me a song and we skated together. This is one of the biggest gifts that anyone has ever given me. A bunch of friends who share the same passion. Thank you my dear hobby. We are connected  through this awesome sport, share the same  passion and support each other in many ways.We can laugh together, we can cry together. No one really cries that much though. I love the cuddly culture, hugs for everyone. It was a perfect day!

Longboarding with your friends is one of the best ways to spend your days, with or without rain. In Finland the season is shorter but at the same time more intense. I'm grateful for all these amazing people in my life who I have gotten to know through this sport. I know that some of these people will always stay in life. I charish the memories and experiences I have had with my friends close to my heart. And I'm looking forward to make new memories. One of the best thing about longboarding in Finland is this crew. Our country has a small population comparing to other European countries but I think it is an advantage. Here we all help each other, support and spread the stoke together.  Longboarding has been very marginal sport in Finland and now it's growing a lot here and abroad. I'm always happy to see a new face in the sessions. Our "longboard family" accepts everyone as they are and welcomes everyone to the trips too. Even if you are a beginner, never touched a board or advanced dowhilll dudette or dude, everyone is always welcomed. In amongs of girl longboarders we try to make this awesome sport more known to people and make it easy to start it. We share our boards and helmets. Because we fell in love with it, we know that there is a lot more of you who has always dreamt about it but not tryed it.

Girls and boys, eat cake and skate! Life is about doing the things you love.  Let's make the world a better place to live and skate more. It's good for your health too. Come to our session this spring and summer and you can feel the love, energy and adrenalin!
Peace and love!

Girls can skate?

Girls can skate!
Well who said that they couldn't?

Jenni doing some standups.

In the last couple of years a lot of girls have found longboarding.
And as the result, a lot of girl groups have started to form all around the world.
I like the fact that girls have started to longboard and in the same time lots of new friendships have been formed but what is the thing with "Girls can skate too"?

I think that the past years have been proving us that girls can do the same things that guys can, not just in longboarding.
And most of the doubt that girls couldn't skate as well as the guys are created by the girls themselves.
All of the posts, pictures and videos titled "girls can skate" are the things that I just can't get. Who has putted the thought that girls couldn't skate in our minds?

It can't be the longboarder guys. For me guys that I skate with have always been supportive and I wouldn't be half as good longboarder that I am today whitout their help and advices.
Maybe (some) girls are a bit more causious and hesitate about trying new things like sliding and downhill but that doesn't mean that with a bit practice they couldn't be equally good with boys in those things.

First proper session of LGCF
So stop questioning your selves and thinking yourself just as a "girl longboarder".
We are all just longboarders.

Well it's just my thoughts about this matter, what do you all think?

-Roosa-Liida

(Dont get me wrong I love our girl group, but its just an obvious thing that we can skate too:)

Getting ready for the season 2012

Spring is coming.
You can already start too see the asphalt from under the snow, days are longer and when you leave home to work 07:00am it's not dark anymore.
And as always spring means that the longboarding season is going to start soon!
Me and Kaisa have already started to plan summer and all the amazing trips we are going to make.
Yesterday we booked plain tickets to go to Madrid next month.
The girls in Madrid are throwing a big party for all the longboarder girls (and guys are also welcomed) from all over the europe. That is something I really want to be part of.
It's going to be 5 days filled with cruising around the city, sliding and maybe also some downhill.
I was in Madrid about 3-4 months ago for a couple of weeks so I have met most of the girls in Madrid allready and really looking fovard of seeing them again!

Me and Kaisa also signed up for KnK Longboard camp in August. 7 days and 2 tracks, it's a longboarders dream! I have never been in Slovenia but what I have seen in pictures, it's going to be beautiful!

(Picture from the main track from Slovenia)

Yesterday I picked up my new board and a new set of wheels for the summer from Boardsport.
I propably bought the last Isis sold on earth (well the only one I have seen in while)
and Landslide wheels from Seismic (75mm/79A).
Im really exited to put the complete together and I really hope we are able to do some longboarding soon!
Im always a bit scared to buy new wheels I haven't tried before...

And for a good ending
I can tell that I have requested

a recer number for
IGSA world cup 2012,
super stocked!

Maybe writing this blog is going to get easier when I actually get some longboarding done...
